Retained Interval explores the way an image holds together through contrast, interruption and remainder. A broad red field occupies the centre of the composition, compressed between a pale beige block above and darker fragments below. Across this structure, white sweeping forms move like openings or breaks within the surface, shifting the work away from stability.

The painting is built around a tension between containment and release. The red area feels dense and sustained, while the white gestures seem to cut through it, exposing a more fragile internal rhythm. A small circular mark near the centre acts as a point of pause, giving the composition a temporary balance within its shifting movement.

Within the Retention Collection, the work reflects on what remains after an image has been altered, layered and partially undone. What is retained here is not a fixed order, but an interval of pressure held visible on the surface.
