Residual Current explores the persistence of movement after a structure has begun to dissolve. Red forms sweep through the composition in curved passages, while beige areas interrupt their direction and redirect the eye across the surface. A dark band near the upper edge introduces resistance, preventing the movement from becoming completely fluid.

The painting develops through circulation rather than fixed alignment. Gestures appear to fold back into one another, leaving traces of earlier movement within each new passage. The surface seems to hold the memory of momentum even where the original direction has been disrupted.

Within the Retention Collection, the work considers how an image can preserve the force of a previous state without preserving its exact form. In Residual Current, what remains is a sense of motion carried forward through the surface.
