Latent Strata explores the image as a layered surface in which underlying structures remain present without becoming fully explicit. Red and beige passages unfold across the composition in horizontal bands, while darker areas introduce interruption and depth. The painting suggests that each visible layer carries the pressure of what lies beneath it.

The work develops through overlap, concealment and partial disclosure. Some marks appear immediate, while others seem suspended, as though held in reserve within the surface. This creates a tension between what is revealed and what remains latent, allowing the composition to feel both active and withheld.

Within the Retention Collection, the work reflects on painting as a record of accumulated states. In Latent Strata, meaning emerges through the quiet persistence of earlier gestures that continue to shape the image from within.
