Chromatic Residue explores what remains after an image has been built, interrupted and partially withdrawn. Red bands move across a pale ground with varying intensity, while a broad beige form and softened grey passages introduce a sense of overlap, correction and delay. The composition feels as though several moments of decision have been retained within the same surface.
The work is structured through horizontal movement, yet it resists stability. The red marks appear assertive, but they are continually offset by blurred transitions and areas of visual drag. This creates a tension between presence and fading, as if the painting is holding on to fragments that are already beginning to slip out of view.
Within the Retention Collection, the work reflects on painting as a site of persistence. What is retained here is not a fixed image, but the residue of process itself — pressure, revision and memory left visible on the surface.
